Activities at the Senior Center

Seniors gather to relax, socialize, or participate in activities. Speakers often visit to discuss interesting topics. A nurse, doctor, lawyer, and accountant also visit to advise or examine the seniors if they wish.

Regular trips are made to local stores and restaurants. Special trips to sites of interest are frequently scheduled. Call Judy Tegner for the monthly schedule of activities.

Becoming a Member

Anyone 55 & over may become a member, Wickliffe resident $5 and non-residents $10 per year. Membership is required for daytime activities, classes, programs and evening senior activities. Evening meetings or special events do not require membership.

Meal Program & Senior Bus Transportation


Lunch is served Monday - Friday at 11:30 AM at the Wickliffe Community-Senior Center. Cost is $1.50 for those 60 years old and over. Call Nancy Krause for a reservation at 440-373-5017 by Wednesday to reserve your meal for the following week.

Meals-on-Wheels are available to Seniors 60 and over who are handicapped or housebound through the Lake County Council on Aging by calling 440-205-8111.

Senior residents needing bus transportation to the Senior Center for the lunch program should call the Recreation Dept. at 943-7120.

SENIOR BUS Transportation

Residents may get transportation to and from the Center and for various appointments through our Dial-A-Ride program. Anyone 55 & over or any resident of any age with a disability may contact Timothy E. Stopp, Recreation Director, at 943-7120 to make a reservation.

Regular trips to local retail & grocery stores are on the schedule each Wednesday and Friday.

An appointment other than going to the Center or shopping must be called in several days in advance to be put on the schedule. Bus runs weekdays only.

Exercise Programs & Equipment Room

Wickliffe Senior Center members can use the exercise equipment room from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Monday through Friday.  

There are five cardiovascular pieces of equipment and three strength training pieces of equipment. Use of the exercise room is at your own risk. Consult your doctor before starting any exercise program.

Wii Game System:
Wii Bowling is scheduled on Monday & Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Come join the fun!

Low-Impact Exercise Class:
Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m.; Wednesdays at 2:15 p.m. and Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. with open enrollment.

Regular Hot Meals at the Senior Center

Wickliffe Community/Senior Center, 900 Worden Road, Wickliffe. Meals are served Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM. Meals are served to seniors 60 years old and up for a donation of $1.50 per meal. Under 60 years old, meals are $3.50. Call one week in advance for a reservation.

Renting Rooms at the Senior Center

Rooms at the Wickliffe Community/Senior Center can be rented for a minimum of two hours for $30 per hour on Fridays from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturdays/Sundays from noon to 10 pm. Contact the Wickliffe Recreation Department at (440) 943-7120 for complete details.

Engraved Brick Sale

The Wickliffe Senior Center is selling engraved bricks that will be placed around the flagpole in front of the Center. The bricks are a thoughtful gift for relatives, friends and neighbors. Bricks are $25.00 each and can be engraved as desired, up to three lines, 15 characters per line. A letter of acknowledgement is sent to the recipient, informing them of your generosity.

Transportation Programs

Dial-a-Ride Bus Service

This door-to-door bus service is designed to meet the transportation needs of residents 55 and over or residents with disabilities. A wheelchair lift is available. The bus operates on weekdays only. For appointments, you are requested to make your reservations at least two days in advance.

You must contact the Recreation Department before scheduling your appointments.

Wickliffe Public Library Homebound Services

Library material will be delivered to any Wickliffe resident who is unable to come into the library because of age, ill health or disability. The service can be on a temporary or permanent basis. All material formats can be included - videos/DVDs, CDs/cassette tapes, paperbacks, large-print books etc.

Health and Human Services Assistance

By dialing 211 or local numbers (440) 953-5465 or (800) 654-5465, you are connected to a person with vast knowledge of the health and human resources available in our Community.

In 2006, over 23,500 calls for help were taken. The information is free and confidential, 24 hours a day, every day. You can also visit their website at

Lake County has made this information service possible through collaboration with United Way, the Lake County Commissioners and the Lake County ADAMHS Board.

Lake County Council on Aging

The Lake County Council on Aging is dedicated to providing services to seniors to help them achieve the quality of life that is important to them. Services include operating the Meals on Wheels program and Senior Café’s, Social Work, Homemaker, Home Maintenance Modification and Repair, the Health Equipment Lending Program (H.E.L.P.), and a variety of Volunteer Services such as Friendly Visitors and Grocery Shoppers. The Council on Aging also houses Lake County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) that offers services to those over 60, as well as those 18 and older if they have a disability. ADRC services include Information & Assistance, Benefits Assistance and Options Counseling.

Monetary Programs

Homestead Tax Exemption

Senior citizens and homeowners who are permanently and totally disabled may qualify for the New Homestead Exemption. For more information, visit the Ohio Department of Taxation web site.

Heating Bill Assistance

HEAP Program

More Ohioans will be able to get help paying their heating bills this winter. The Ohio Department of Development has increased the income level guidelines so that more people will be eligible for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

Households are eligible for HEAP assistance if their income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, an increase from the previous level of 175 percent.  This means the program will help heat more homes this winter.

HEAP provides a one-time payment for the current winter heating season.  Households with elderly or disabled members may qualify for a larger amount of assistance.  

A special component of HEAP, the Winter Crisis Program,is administered by Community Action agencies throughout Ohio. The Winter Crisis Program provides assistance once per heating season to eligible households that are disconnected, threatened with disconnection, or have less than a 10 day supply of bulk fuel.

Golden Buckeye Cards

Businesses of all types voluntarily offer special savings or deals for older Ohioans who carry the Golden Buckeye card. Most participating businesses display the Golden Buckeye logo on their door, in their window or at the checkout.

Golden Buckeye cards are automatically mailed during the month of their 60th birthday to individuals having a current Ohio drivers license or state identification card. Folks who do not automatically receive a card may apply at the Wickliffe Public Library. To apply, bring proof of age, which includes one of the following: current Ohio drivers license or state identification card, birth certificate, or other legal document that proves the applicant’s date of birth.
