Overview

The Keep Wickliffe Beautiful (KWB) Commission is a volunteer affiliate board comprised of 10 appointed members and a subcommittee of an unlimited number. These volunteers address environmental issues, including litter prevention, recycling, and education.

KWB began as the Wickliffe Clean City Commission on October 13, 1986 as the result of an ordinance by Wickliffe City Council. It became a certified Keep America Beautiful affiliate on November 5, 1986 after completing certification requirements.  KWB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Programs & Events

Shred Your Files Event

KWB offers the opportunity for residents (no businesses) to bring up to four bags or boxes per household to be shredded on-site free of charge. This year the event will be held on Saturday, October 7th in the old Service Garage lot (28730 Ridge Road) from 9 am to Noon.

Bright Spot Business Award

To recognize and encourage private efforts that beautify our City, KWB presents the Bright Spot Award. This award is presented to business properties that excel in one or more of the following areas: revitalization of property, new construction, plantings and beautification, upkeep and maintenance, or rehabilitation.

Memorial Rose Garden

In 1996, the Keep Wickliffe Beautiful Commission established a Memorial Rose Garden as a special way to remember departed relatives and friends. This garden is located at the west end of Wickliffe City Hall in the Coulby Gardens. A Rose Garden was part of the original gardens of the Coulby Estate. It has been restored to its original beauty by the Commission as a memorial garden. A dedication ceremony is held annually in June to recognize those memorialized in the past year. Applications for Memorial Rose bushes are currently suspended until further notice.

Yard of the Year

Each year, the Keep Wickliffe Beautiful Commission selects one Yard of the Year winner in each of the four wards in Wickliffe. Trained evaluators canvas assigned areas of the city using a rating score sheet to evaluate the top yards in their area. A final panel of judges then views the top 10 nominations from each ward and selects the winner. Winners are presented a Yard of the Year sign for their yard and a photo is included in the Wickliffe Connection.

Thank you, Wickliffe! Once again it was not easy to just choose one Yard of the Year for each ward. Our eight voluntary judges thoughtfully and carefully combed for the best of the best. This year our criteria were revised to include a lot of different yards. We also thank those who nominated their neighbors. Each winner was very excited and pleased at being chosen a winner. We have great people here in our city. It was also a pleasure to be invited to visit backyards as well. There are quite a few sanctuaries in our backyards. If you have any suggestions for 2023, or would like to be a judge, please email Keep Wickliffe Beautiful.
